Starting and extending the Linear Drive Horizon

The granite table and Y-axis rail have been engineered to fully leverage the thermal stability of this exceptional material. To protect metrology accuracy, the Y-axis linear drive system is deliberately positioned away from the Y-axis encoder, allowing any heat produced by the drive to be absorbed by the granite without impacting measurement performance.

The entire Horizon L design builds on proven components from the Horizon range, with key improvements to enhance the stiffness-to-weight ratio of the bridge assembly. Key design updates include: a Y-axis rail that is 200 mm taller, allowing the use of the same right-hand-side linear drive system while boosting rigidity; a lighter, more compact carriage that maintains metrology integrity while improving structural efficiency; a more powerful Z-axis motor for optimal axis performance; and a custom extruded left-hand air bearing profile designed to reduce weight without compromising stiffness.
